Our Most Important Relationship
The relationship that we have with ourselves is the most important relationship we will ever have. We need to learn how to build that relationship. Part of that process is learning how to trust ourselves. We need to take what we say seriously. We need to follow through on what we say we are going to do. Even if no one will ever know if we followed through or not, we know, and that is the most important thing
If we tell ourselves we are going to make ourselves a cup of tea and then we never get around to it, it is sending the message to ourselves that we are not really very important. If we have an impulse to try something and we tell ourselves that we are going to do it, but then never push ourselves, it is sending ourselves a strong message as well. The same holds true if we say we are going to call someone, if we say we are going to relate something that we feel deeply about to another person, if we say we are going to draw boundaries with someone, if we say we are going to stop doing something that is harming us, and on and on.
"We need to follow through on what we say we are going to do. Even if no one will ever know if we followed through or not, we know,
and that is the most important thing."
We need to be truthful in not only what we say, but in what we think. When we perceive something a certain way, we need not to second-guess ourselves so much. We can take a step back and look at things from different angles, but we need not to discredit ourselves. We need to stop giving ourselves reasons why what we think or say must not be real or accurate.
We are all worth so much, but we have to start believing that. It has to start with us and our integrity in our thoughts and actions with ourselves.
